(Blender 3.4+)

This modifier will be remade from scratch for the upcoming Clay 4.Doh update.

  1. Make sure you have added a Clay Doh asset library. Not sure how? See this.

  2. Add a Curve object or import a .SVG shape in Blender’s 3D viewport.

  3. Drag-n-drop the ‘Clay Shape GN’ asset from the Asset Browser on to this Curve object.

  4. Select the modifier from the Modifiers tab. It should have a blue outline.

  5. Now, open a Geometry Nodes Editor window and here you will find a node for Clay Shape. (If you can’t find the node here, simple press ‘Home’ on your keyboard which will find and focus all the nodes)

The parameters from the nodes are explained below.

  6. If you want to “apply” the modifier, right-click on your object and select “Convert To > Mesh”.

These are the “Clay Shape Node” parameters:

  1. Mesh/Vector: Make sure that this input is connected to the ‘Geometry’ output of the Group Input node.

  2. Extrude: Controls the “thickness” of the shape.

  3. Crease: Controls how smooth or crisp the edges of the shape are.

(Relative to the ‘Extrude’ thickness)

  1. Subdivision Level: The number of subdivisions to apply to the shape geometry.

NOTE: Keep this value as low as possible. Large values will make the geometry heavy.

  1. Merge By Distance: Merges mesh vertices within a given distance, merging surrounding geometry where necessary.

This value can be thought of as the maximum distance that can exist between any 2 vertices before they merge.

How to use the SHAPE TOOL on custom shapes (.SVG)?

  1. Download, install and enable the Clay Doh ADDON. More info HERE.
